Taylor Named Most Powerful Musician In UK’s Media

Taylor Swift has been named the most powerful musician in the UK’s media by The Guardian, in their annual MediaGuardian 100 poll.

The Guardian’s list, which is compiled by a panel of judges from the world of media, has been topped for the fourth time by Larry Page, the co-founder and chief executive of Google. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is at No.2 and Apple’s Time Cook is at No.3

The only musician, and only woman, in the top 10 of the list is Taylor Swift, who has been placed at No.10 – her first appearance in the list. Having released her fifth album, 1989, in October, the singer is worth an estimated $64 million and has sold over 30 million albums.

This isn’t the reason for her inclusion in this year’s MediaGuardian 100 though – the paper writes, “She only came to our attention when she pulled her back-catalogue from Spotify, almost singlehandedly bringing the issue of artist remuneration into the spotlight.”
