Visiting Wichita Radio Stations

WICHITA — Country star Taylor Swift made a brief stop in Wichita this afternoon, surprising staff members at radio stations KFDI-FM 101.3 and KZSN-FM 102.1, where she granted interviews about her just-released third album, “Speak Now.”

Only a few top executives at both stations knew about the visits in advance. Managers for Swift, whose album sold more than 1 million copies in the first week it was released, asked that it be kept secret.

Swift, who appeared live on TV’s “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night, took a private plane from Los Angeles to Wichita this morning. She did the interviews, then immediately boarded the plane to head for Toronto.

At KFDI, where Swift stopped first, employees were surprised to see the 20-year-old star in the building.

Disc jockey Carol Hughes interviewed her about her album on the air from about 1:50 to 2:40 p.m., said Beverlee Brannigan, operations manager for Journal Broadcast Group.
