Taylor was named #1 in highest paid woman in music, edging out Adele, Madonna, Rihanna, and Beyonce. Taylor’s $200 million haul from the 1989 Tour also broke previous all-time North American touring record, set by the Rolling Stones in 2005. She also had endorsements with Apple, Keds, Diet Coke, and recently inked a deal with AT&T.
One of the big singles on Taylor Swift’s 1989 is “Wildest Dreams”—a phrase that applies just as well to her recent earnings as the song. Swift pulled in $170 million over the past year, making her the highest-paid woman in music.
The bulk of her career-best haul came from her 1989 Tour, which grossed over a quarter of a billion dollars. More than $200 million of that came in North America, where Swift shattered the Rolling Stones’ record. She padded her total by moving more than 3 million album equivalents during our scoring period and shilling brands including Keds, Diet Coke and Apple.
“She has been building her fan base for years, and that fan base crosses multiple market segments,” says entertainment attorney Lori Landew of Fox Rothschild. “It’s this ability to appeal to younger and older audiences, and those in between, that makes Taylor such a sure bet with both concert promoters and brands who want to affiliate with her and with the community she has cultivated.”
Taylor Swift’s “1989” earns a 6x platinum certification in the United States.
The reigning Grammy winner for Album of the Year has officially reached a new multi-platinum tier in the United States.
According to the RIAA, Taylor Swift’s “1989” reached 6x platinum status on October 19, 2016.
The 6x platinum certification confirms 6 million in US album units. Each unit is equal to 1 sale, 10 track sales or 1500 track streams.
Whereas many newly certified albums are generating the majority of their units from track sales and streams, it is worth noting that “1989” has sold roughly 6 million pure US copies in the United States. Its certification is therefore as much of a “pure sales award” as one should expect to see in 2016.
Taylor was spotted with her friends Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Serena Williams, Lorde, Dakota Johnson, Zoë Kravitz, Martha Hunt, Lily Donaldson, and Karlie Kloss in New York City over the past few weeks. See our gallery for more candids!
