“1989” Removes the asterisk, Spends a complete year in the Top 10

By grabbing a Top 10 position on *this* week’s Billboard 200, Taylor Swift’s “1989” has removed the ambiguity. It has truly spent a calendar year inside the Top 10.

Upon learning that Taylor Swift’s “1989” claimed #9 on last week’s Billboard 200 (dated November 7), numerous media outlets reported that Swift’s album had spent 52 weeks — a complete year — inside the chart’s Top 10.

There was only one problem: while Swift’s album had spent 52 chart weeks inside the Top 10, its run had not yet crossed the one-year mark. “1989” was released on Monday, October 27, 2014, but the tracking week for last week’s chart concluded on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

The confusion stemmed from the fact that Billboard, this past July, issued a transitional chart to account for the switch to a Friday-Thursday sales tracking week. Dated July 25, the chart covered the eleven-day period between June 29 and July 9.

Since data from the first seven days of that tracking week was included in the chart dated July 18, the July 25 chart only accounted for four fresh days of sales activity.

Taylor Scores Fifth “1989” Top 10 On Billboard’s Pop Songs Chart

Taylor Swift, “Wildest Dreams”

The fifth radio single from 1989 slips from its No. 12 Hot 100 high to No. 13 (Swift’s favorite number). But on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, it races 14-10, becoming the fifth top 10 from the set on the tally, with the first four all hitting No. 1: “Shake It Off” (two weeks), “Blank Space” (six), “Style” (three) and “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar (five).

If “Dreams” hits No. 1 on Pop Songs, 1989 would become just the second album to yield at least five leaders on the list: Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream generated a record six in 2010-12. (Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, in 2006-07, and Lady Gaga’s The Fame, in 2009, also landed four No. 1s apiece.)

“Wildest Dreams” Earns #4 On Sales Chart

Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” rises to #4 on the Digital Songs chart. Its cumulative US total is nearly 700K.

While Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” dips to #13 on this week’s all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100, it rises to a new peak on the Digital Songs subchart.

Thanks to US sales of 84,444 during the September 11-17 tracking week, “Wildest Dreams” earns #4 on this week’s Digital Songs chat. Only Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?,” The Weeknd’s “The Hills,” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” sold better during the official tracking period.

With those 84,444 paid US downloads added to its tally, “Wildest Dreams” boasted a cumulative sales total of 697,969 when the aforementioned 9/11-17 tracking week concluded.

Already certified gold, “Wildest Dreams” is the fifth single from Swift’s “1989.”

“Wildest Dreams” Repeats as Hot AC Radio’s Most-Added Song

Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” again ranks as hot adult contemporary radio’s most-added song. Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself” follows.

While it obviously had no chance of matching last week’s gigantic add count, Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” still managed to land atop this week’s hot adult contemporary radio add board.

According to Mediabase, “Wildest Dreams” won support from another 16 monitored Hot AC stations this week. That allows it to claim the format’s most-added honor for a second-straight week.

“Love Myself,” the debut single from Swift’s Republic teammate and “Bad Blood” squad member Hailee Steinfeld, follows as second-most-added. It scored support from 11 monitored stations this week.

Jamie Lawson’s “Wasn’t Expecting That,” which is the format’s iHeart “On the Verge” song, narrowly trails as third-most-added. It scored 10 pickups.

“Wildest Dreams” Erupts as Hot AC Radio’s Most Added Song

Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” makes a massive impact at Hot AC radio. It easily ranks as the week’s most-added song.

Hot adult contemporary radio programmers are extremely enthusiastic about Taylor Swift’s new single “Wildest Dreams.”

That enthusiasm manifested in the form of a surge to #29 on this week’s Mediabase airplay chart.

It also manifests in the form of a trip to the top of the Mediabase Hot AC add board.

Picked up by a whopping 79 monitored stations this week, “Wildest Dreams” easily ranks as the format’s most-added song.
