Taylor Becomes Top New Artist of the 2000s

Yahoo.com unveiled the list of the best-selling album artists of the 2000s earlier today and Taylor has claimed the top spot by selling more albums in the U.S. than any other artist who has emerged since January 2000! The release of 1989 enabled Taylor to surpass Linkin Park by .2 million. You can read more about it below.

Taylor Swift (25.2 million)

The country-turned-pop superstar emerged in October 2006 with her eponymous debut album. Her best-seller is her sophomore album, 2008’s Fearless (6.9 million). It logged 11 weeks at #1 and was the best-selling album of 2009. Swift has had four consecutive #1 albums which have spent a combined total of 27 weeks at #1. She has won seven Grammys, including Album of the Year for Fearless. She won the CMA’s Horizon Award for 2007 and went on to become only the second woman to be voted the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year twice. (Barbara Mandrell was the first.)

Linkin Park (25 million)
Nickelback (23.2 million)
Rascal Flatts (22.9 million)
Josh Groban (22.3 million)
Nelly (21.8 million)
Norah Jones (19.1 million)
Alicia Keys (18.4 million)
Michael Bublé (18.1 million)

Single Sales: Taylor, Meghan Trainor Claim Two Top Tens Each

Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor are responsible for four of the ten best-selling singles. Mark Ronson and Mr Probz enter the mix this week.

The top ten for this week’s Billboard Digital Songs chart is official, and it offers 40% of its real estate to Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor.

Courtesy “Blank Space” (302,000 weekly paid downloads) and “Shake it Off” (83,000), Swift claims the #1 and #8 positions, respectively. Trainor grabs #4 via “All About That Bass” (106,000) and #10 thanks to “Lips are Movin” (69,000).

Still impressive, Swift’s presence is actually weaker than that of last week. Her two singles were both in the top five on the previous week’s Digital Songs chart.

Special in that it gives Trainor a second top ten presence, “Lips are Movin” is not the only song to enter that portion of the single sales chart this week. Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)” vaults to #3 with 111,000 weekly sales, while Mr Probz’ “Waves” notches its first top ten position (#9) via 71,000.
