It pays to have famous friends — or, in Taylor Swift’s case, friends with large online followings who will tweet about attending your 25th birthday party.
An array of A-listers (like Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, Lorde, Haim and more) did just that on the night of Dec. 13, spreading online birthday wishes and generating enough social buzz to send Swift to the No. 1 position on the Social 50 for the third time.
The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.
The last time Swift topped the Social 50 was in April 2013, the week following the Academy of Country Music Awards where she took a fan battling leukemia as her date to the show.

Swift reigns for a ninth week, while Cole launches fueled by album sales.
Taylor Swift remains atop the Billboard Artist 100 chart, logging a record-extending ninth week at No. 1, while J. Cole soars in at No. 2, powered by sales for his new album.
The Artist 100 provides the first weekly ranking dedicated to measuring artist activity across Billboard’s most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Swift crowns the Artist 100 again, holding a nearly 2-to-1 points lead over Cole. With Swift up by 5 percent in overall points, album sales again account for the majority of her Artist 100 standing (38 percent). Her 1989 dips 2-1 on the Billboard 200, after five weeks at the summit, with 324,000 total album equivalent units (with 278,000 from pure album sales).

It’s easy to forget that when Taylor Swift announced in August that her fifth album, 1989, would leave her country roots behind to be a purely pop project, there were a lot of skeptics — as she might say, a lot of haters ready to hate, hate, hate. But that was four months ago.
The world’s biggest pop star (who has a Twitter following of more than 48 million) has broken records since, with her album selling nearly 1.3 million copies during its first week — the biggest single-week number in 12 years — at a time when record sales are in dizzying free fall. Swift, 25, also became the first female artist to have back-to-back No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 (“Shake It Off” and “Blank Space”). And her risky decision not to stream 1989 on the world’s fastest-growing service, Spotify, magnified the debate over fair royalties during the digital age.
Taylor was spotted leaving her apartment in New York City after meeting with Jay Z and Justin Timberlake last night. We have added candids from the sighting to the gallery, so be sure to check them out!

Taylor will be bringing The ‘1989’ World Tour to British shores next summer for a series of UK and Ireland shows including the headline slot at British Summer Time at Hyde Park 2015 on Saturday 27 June.
