Taylor Swift headlines Oct 22nd concert at the Formula 1 Grand Prix event in Austin, Texas

Today the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) announced that Taylor Swift is performing at the Formula 1 Grand Prix event in Austin, Texas. The concert will be held on Saturday night (Oct 22nd), the second day of the race.

This will be Taylor’s first performance since her 1989 World Tour ended in December 2015.
Tickets will be available starting April 6th. Visit the COTA website to sign-up for pre-sale and ticket information.

An Austin event that brings thousands each year is expected to be even bigger after announcing Taylor Swift will perform at Formula 1.

Organizer Bobby Epstein said in a news conference that they expect this year’s event to be the biggest Austin has ever seen. Drawing crowds from around the world to the Circuit of the America’s, Formula 1 is a huge economic boost for the city, according to Epstein.

With a big name like Swift, organizers have upgraded 12,000 parking spots to avoid the mud issues they faced during heavy rains last year. There were rumors after the devastating weather last year, that the race would be cancelled for 2016. Epstein said if it rains more than two inches before the race, fans will get a 105 percent ticket refund.

Also announced is the American team Haas, which will be new this year.

Tickets go on sale April 6. Swift will be performing on Saturday this year, unlike the past Sunday performances.

“1989” HAS SOLD 9 MILLION WORLDWIDE COPIES

Taylor Swift’s “1989” now boasts a worldwide sales total in excess of 9 million.

Taylor Swift’s Grammy-nominated album “1989” has reached another milestone.

The album, which first emerged on October 27, 2014, recently crossed the 9 million worldwide sales mark.

While the majority — just over 5.6 million — of those sales were generated in the United States, the album’s international performance is nothing at which to sneeze.

The worldwide sales achievement serves as a testament to both the album’s immense resonance and Taylor Swift’s considerable star power.

“1989” is a Grammy nominee for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Single “Blank Space” is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, while the Kendrick Lamar remix of its “Bad Blood” is a nominee for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.

‘Fearless’ Surpasses 7 Million Sold in U.S.

Taylor Swift, 1989 – No. 9 — The former No. 1 album — now in its 60th week on the chart — returns to the top 10 (rising 12-9) to snag a 55th nonconsecutive week in the region. The album lingered in the top 10 for its first 53 chart weeks. Since the Billboard 200 combined its mono and stereo albums charts in 1963 into one all-encompassing weekly albums chart, Swift is the only act to have earned more than one album with more than 50 weeks in the top 10, with both 1989 and Fearless (58 weeks in the top 10). The record for the most weeks in the top 10 during that span of time is held by The Sound of Music film soundtrack, with 109 weeks.

In other Swift news, her Fearless album surpasses 7 million in total U.S. sales, as it moved another 3,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 17 to bring its total to 7,001,000. The album, released in 2008, continues to rule as Swift’s biggest-selling effort.

“Style” Certified 3X Platinum In The United States

Taylor Swift’s “Style” earns a 3X platinum honor in the United States.

The second-most-certified digital singles artist in RIAA history continues moving toward the top of the mountain.

On December 7, 2015, Taylor Swift’s “Style” earned a 3X platinum certification from the RIAA. The certification confirms a US unit total of at least 3 million; one unit is equal to 1 paid download or 100 streams.

In elevating “Style” from double platinum to triple platinum, the new certification brings Taylor Swift’s digital single certification total to 96.5 million total units. That brings her within 4.5 million units of the top spot.
