Taylor Featured on Guardian’s Media100 Most Influential People in Media List

Taylor was featured on the Guardian’s Media100 Most Influential People in Media List! Coming in at #8, Taylor is the only other entertainer featured alongside Adele. Amongst Taylor’s record breaking album sales, Taylor is also credited for her influence in changing Apple’s policy on compensation for artists during Apple Music’s free trial period.

Taylor Swift Is Continuing Her Reign As The Most Influential Woman In The U.k. Press After Landing At Number Eight On The 2015 Mediaguardian 100 Poll.

The annual survey, compiled by editors at Britain’s Guardian newspaper, ranks those who boast the most pulling power and have had the biggest impact on national art, advertising, technology and journalism in the past year.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tops the new countdown, while fellow tech leaders Larry Page, co-founder of Google, and Apple CEO Tim Cook trail at two and three, respectively.

Taylor becomes the highest-placed celebrity at eight, up two spots from last year’s (14) poll, after the Shake It Off singer “singlehandedly got Apple to take notice when they totally ignored major corporations” over their initial plans not to compensate artists for streaming their work during Apple Music’s free trial earlier this year (15).

British presenter Chris Evans rides high at 13, while fellow TV personality and comedian Lenny Henry places at 18.

Taylor Donates 25,000 Scholastic Books to New York City Schools

NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Today, singer, songwriter Taylor Swift and Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, announced a donation of 25,000 new, age-appropriate books from the Scholastic Possible Fund to 25 New York City schools in need of more books for their students.

Twenty-five schools will each receive 1,000 new children’s books through the Scholastic Possible Fund as a result of Taylor’s support of the Company’s “Open a World of Possible,” initiative, designed to promote independent reading among all children. As a long-time literacy advocate, Taylor hosted a webcast for classrooms during which she shared how books, reading and writing have influenced her and opened her world. Since it first aired in October 2014, the webcast has been viewed by more than 4.5 million students from around the country and is available at: http://www.scholastic.com/taylorswift/

The importance of increasing access to books in schools was highlighted in the most recent Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ which found that children ages 6-17 from lower-income households are more likely to read books for fun in school and far less likely to read books outside of school than their higher-income peers. Further, having a selection of texts for independent reading can be a powerful tool to encourage kids to pick up a book. The same report revealed that nine in ten kids agree their favorite books – and the ones they are the most likely to finish – are the ones they pick out themselves.

“1989” Removes the asterisk, Spends a complete year in the Top 10

By grabbing a Top 10 position on *this* week’s Billboard 200, Taylor Swift’s “1989” has removed the ambiguity. It has truly spent a calendar year inside the Top 10.

Upon learning that Taylor Swift’s “1989” claimed #9 on last week’s Billboard 200 (dated November 7), numerous media outlets reported that Swift’s album had spent 52 weeks — a complete year — inside the chart’s Top 10.

There was only one problem: while Swift’s album had spent 52 chart weeks inside the Top 10, its run had not yet crossed the one-year mark. “1989” was released on Monday, October 27, 2014, but the tracking week for last week’s chart concluded on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

The confusion stemmed from the fact that Billboard, this past July, issued a transitional chart to account for the switch to a Friday-Thursday sales tracking week. Dated July 25, the chart covered the eleven-day period between June 29 and July 9.

Since data from the first seven days of that tracking week was included in the chart dated July 18, the July 25 chart only accounted for four fresh days of sales activity.
