The 2016 Billboard Music Awards was held May 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Taylor was nominated for eight awards: Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Touring Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album (1989), Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, and Top Social Media Artist.
She took home the award for Top Touring Artist.
She has a total of 22 BBMAs from 2009 through 2015, and the win from tonight increases that count to 23!
This award highlights Taylor’s influence on pop culture and music industry. Since Michael Jackson’s award in 1990, this is only the second time BMI has given out this prestigious honor to an artist. The ceremony was held on May 10th, at Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Update: Taylor won several more awards tonight! She also won Songwriter of the Year in recognition of her most-played pop songs from 1989: Bad Blood, Blank Space, Style, and Wildest Dreams.
Taylor Swift added two more honors — the first-ever Taylor Swift Award and Pop Songwriter of the Year — to her crowded shelf of industry accolades at the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards last evening (May 10). Held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., the ceremony honored the writers and publishers of the most-performed pop songs during the past year.
Swift’s eponymous award, in recognition of her creative and artistic talent and influence, marked only the second time in BMI’s 76-year history that the organization has presented an award in an artist’s name.
Michael Jackson was the first to achieve that honor in 1990. Swift also claimed four of the year’s most-performed songs to earn pop songwriter of the year kudos. “Bad Blood,” “Blank Space,” “Style” and “Wildest Dreams” are all featured on the artist’s Billboard 200 No. 1 album 1989.
BMI will present Taylor Swift with an award bearing her name in recognition of her incomparable creative and artistic talent and influence on music lovers throughout the world. The first-ever Taylor Swift Award will be given at the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards on Tuesday, May 10, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. The event will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations Barbara Cane.
This is only the second time in BMI’s 76-year history that the company has presented an award in someone’s name. The first was to Michael Jackson in 1990.
“Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit,” said Cane. “She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone. We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is.”
In addition, BMI will honor songwriting visionaries Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil with the BMI Icon Award for their indelible contributions to the craft of songwriting. As one of the world’s most esteemed and celebrated songwriting teams, Mann and Weil’s iconic partnership has spanned decades with nearly every genre of popular music included in their massively successful repertoire.
